Stewart slams Padres, closes the lead…

Ian Stewart has been due for a breakout game and last night he more than delivered. Stewart went 2 for 3 with 6 RBIs on the night. Stewart homered twice on the night, first in the 3rd with a man on and again in the 7th with bases loaded, that gave the Rockies the lead for good. Carlos Gonzalez also got into the act with a 2 run homerun in the 3rd, going 3 for 4 on the night with 2 RBIs. Jason Giambi continues to swing a hot bat, following up his 4 for 4 day against the Cardinals on Thursday with a 2 for 3 night last night, and an RBI while also scoring 2 runs.

Last night’s win now leaves the Rockies only two games behind the division leading Padres. The Dodgers also won 9-7 over the Cubs, putting them also two games back.

Tonight the Rockies Jason Hammel (6-3, 4.18) will take on the Padres Wade LeBlanc (4-6, 3.10)
