Houston launches in the 10th to defeat Rockies…
The Rockies had their chances last night. Nine men left on base, 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position, a Todd Helton pinch-hit that resulted in nothing. OK, so maybe the last part wasnt much of a chance for the Rockies considering the way Helton has been swinging the bat lately. But hey, he’s still batting a higher average than Chris Iannetta (.170) for what’s it’s worth.
CBS 4 local sportscaster Vic Lombardi on AM 1600 this morning made a statement that the Rockies will not make the playoffs if Todd Helton isn’t hitting the ball. I beg to disagree with Lombardi, but I wont go into great details as to why I disagree. The Rockies wont make the playoffs if the bullpen makes mistakes like it did last night with Matt Belisle in the 10th inning. Belisle struggled in the 10th giving up 3 hits, and 4 earned runs in the process thank to a grand slam by the Astros Carlos Lee. Prior to the home run Lee was held hitless on the night going 0 for 4.
Congratulations to Jonathan Herrera on getting his first hit of the season last night. Herrera went 1 for 5, scoring a run. Carlos Gonzalez went 0 for 5 and Tulo who went 1 for 5, looked pretty awful at the plate striking out 3 times, all on pitches that were away from the strike zone. Here are a few pics from last night’s game.
