Record setting night for Ubaldo, as Rox tread on D’backs…
Rockies Ubaldo Jimenez has now pitched 22 1/3 consecutive shutout innings over his last 3 starts setting a new team record in that category. Jimenez went 6 innings only allowing 2 hits to reach this milestone last night. The Rockies probably played their best and most complete game of the season on both sides of the ball. Offensively the Rox scored 12 runs on 15 hits. Better than 50% with runners in scoring position going 7 for 13, (54%), while holding Arizona to just 20%, 1 for 5.
Jimenez with last night’s win is now 5-0 with a 0.75 ERA, leading the majors in wins and second in ERA behind the Mets Mike Pelfrey (0.69).
Eric Young Jr made his major league debut of the season went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. Dexter Fowler also went 2 for 4, scoring 2 runs. Carlos Gonzalez went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs and a homerun short of hitting for the cycle. Tulo went a perfect 3 for 3, with an RBI and scoring 3 runs. Jhoulys Chacin made his season debut pitching a near perfect 9th inning, striking out 2 of 3 batters and allowing no hits. Chacin is scheduled to start Sunday in San Francisco.
The Rox will try to take the series this afternoon (1:10pm) with Greg Smith (1-2, 5.24) on the mound going against Kris Benson (1-1, 3.00) for the D’backs.
