Rockies slam Giants 6-4, thanks to Spilly…
The Rockies continued their dismantiling of the San Francisco Giants in the 14th inning with a walk off grand slam by Ryan Spilborghs. The Rockies took the series 3 games to 1 and now have a 4 game lead in the NL Wildcard race over the Giants and 4.5 over the Braves. The win also brings the Rox 3 games behind the division leading Dodgers, who come into Coors Field tonight for 3 games. The unfortunate thing is that the Rockies will have to face the Giants 2 more times the remainder of the season and both are in San Francisco, beginning this weekend.
Ryan Spilborghs grand slam in the 14th was only his 2nd hit of the night, going 2 for 7 with 4 RBIs. The slam also gave reliever Adam Eaton his 3rd win on the season since being acquired after his release from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this season.
Hopefully the Rockies will have gotten their rest and will be ready to take on the Dodgers tonight. The Rockies used 20 players in last nights game, 7 of them pitchers.
So tonight it’s the battle of the 8-7’s, Jason Hammel and Clayton Kershaw both have ideantical records, but Kershaw has a much better ERA, 2.96 compared to Hammel’s 4.54. All eyes will be on this series as the Dodgers have gone 5-5 in their last 10 games, losing a 3 game series to the D’Backs in that span while the Rockies have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games.
