Pirates(45-66) @ Rockies(62-50) Preview…

PiratesJust who are the Pittsburgh Pirates? Well the team that comes into Coors Field beginning tonight for 3 games is not the same team that was here back in June. Since the last visit, the Pirates organization has basically traded away every meaningful player they’ve had on their roster this season. Of the 25 man roster the Pirates only have 4 players with more than 75 games played this season in a Pirates uniform.

How bad are the Pirates? The Pirates have only won 13 games since their last visit to Coors Field in June, seven of those have come since the all-star break. To put that in some perspective of how bad the Pirates are, the Nationals are currently on an 8 game winning streak. Here are some stats on the season for the Pirates. 23rd in the majors in batting average (.257), 25th in runs scored (457), 28th in homeruns (87) just ahead of the Giants and Mets. 25th in RBIs (443) and slugging percentage (.394), 29th in strikeouts (625). And not to mention this season is their 16th straight losing season.

Here is the Pirates batting order for tonight’s game.

Pirates’ lineup:

  1. McCutchen, CF
  2. Milledge, LF
  3. Jones, RF
  4. Doumit, C
  5. Pearce, 1B
  6. Young, 2B
  7. LaRoche, 3B
  8. Cedeno, SS
  9. Ohlendorf, P
