Rockies take first game of series against Phils…
The Rockies roll along to their 5th straight win in a row thanks in large part to Garrett Atkins and Jason Hammel. Jason Hammel struck out 6 through 6.2 innings to even his record on the season to 6-6, while Atkins himself went 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and also scored 2 runs and drew a walk. I hope John Kruk is somewhere watching this series. If you remember earlier in the season Kruk said that the Rockies run was just that, a run and that the NL Wildcard was going to come out of the NL East.
The loss by the Phillies is their 3rd straight, though they still lead their division by 5 games over the Marlins. The win for the Rockies puts them 6 games over .500 on the road (32-26) and they also are 6 games over at home (27-21) this season as well. The Rockies are still only have a half game lead over the Giants who seemingly won’t go away in the chase for the NL Wildcard.
Jorge De La Rosa (9-7) goes for his 8th win in a row against the J.A. Happ (7-2). DLR in 4 career games against the Phillies has a record of 0-1 and an 8.38 ERA in 9.2 innings of work. Three of those appearances coming at Coors Field. That one loss came last season at Citizen’s Bank Park where he has an ERA of 16.20 through 3.1 innings of work.
