Mets slam Rockies, wildcard lead 1…
I know that alot of people will blame this loss on the pitching and if you’re only looking at the end result, the final score, then you have a valid point, but here is where this game was lost honestly. There are two stats that tell the whole story of the game for the Rockies and that is 10 runners left on base, and 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position. Another solid start for Jimenez where the run support is not up to par, and Ubaldo leaves the game after 7 innings with a no decision. All the while the Giants win against the Pirates at AT&T Park with Lincecum striking out 15 batters to gain a game on the Rockies and the Cardinals also winning last night 6-1 over the Dodgers and are now 1.5 games back in the NL Wildcard chase.
There was a Cory Sullivan sighting in last night’s game. The former Rockies outfielder went 0 for 1 with an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The Rockies will need to rebound tonight with Jason Marquis returning to the mound after missing a scheduled start with a blister on the middle finger of his throwing hand. Marquis (12-6, 3.49) a Long Island native will face Mike Pelfrey(7-6, 4.99).
QUOTE OF THE GAME: “It came down to which club opened the door for the other team first and allows them to put a point on the board,” Tracy said. “Obviously, we made the mistake of walking two guys to start the eighth inning.”
