Game 32 Recap, Astros 15 @ Rockies 11…
Jason Marquis who last month was the glue that held the starting rotation together when the other starters had trouble winning games, now finds himself in the same situation this month with his 2nd consecutive loss. Marquis (4-3) only lasted 3 2/3 innings, gave up 10 hits and 9 runs and walked 3 in that span.
What went right? I’ll give the Rockies credit, the rallied a number of times in the game to make the game at least on paper look closer than it really was. They answered the Astros 3 runs in the first with 3 of their own in the second, then late in the game from the sixth inning on, scoring 8 runs overall including a grand slam by Chris Iannetta in the 9th with 2 outs.
What went wrong? Pitching. First it was Marquis, then Glendon Rusch didnt help the issue any giving up an additional 6 runs in 2 2/3 innings of early relief. Also Hurdle’s constant juggling of the lineup. Nothing against Ryan Spilborghs, but Seth Smith who has played really well as of late should’ve started in left field last night. You dont keep a hot bat out of the lineup and someone who has improved playing out in left field, especially when you’re a team in desperate need of wins, I don’t care who your vote of confidence comes from.
Inside the Humidor game MVP is Chris Iannetta, who went 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs on the night.
Rockies finish up with the Astros this afternoon with Jason Hammel (0-1) up against Wandy Rodriguez (3-2). Gametime 1:10pm.
