Cook versus Ramirez, round 2…

aaron-cookThe Rockies again take on the Dodgers in their second weekend series, but this time at Coors Field beginning tonight at 7:10 MT. Usually the featured matchups are pitcher against pitcher, but at least for tonight’s game the matchup to watch will be Aaron Cook versus Manny Ramirez. Last week  Aaron Cook was “Man-Rammed” (sounds painful doesn’t it?) for 2 homeruns, Manny’s first two of the season, not to mention another homer to Andre Ethier. Cook is still looking for his first win of the season going up against the Dodgers Eric Stults (2-0, 2.61). Aaron will need to stay down and away from Ramirez to be effective.

The series on paper at least from the pitching aspect I believe favors the Rockies with Cook, Jimenez and Marquis and that is mostly due to each one’s potential more than their consistency, despite the Dodgers bettering the Rockies by more than 2 points in team ERA. The problems of course for the Rockies are which pitchers will show up to at the least be effective throughout and will there be any run support? The Rockies are 24th in batting (.243) and 19th in runs scored with 66 on the year. Having to face a Dodgers team that is 2nd in the league in batting at .293 and 4th in runs scored with 94 is not going to be an easy task. Of course nothing is easy when it comes to the Rockies. What will ultimately decide this series will be whether either team’s bullpen can keep a lead.
