blogging Colorado Rockies baseball…

Consistently Inconsistent…

That basically describes the Rockies so far this season, but especially after the first two games against the Dodgers, yesterday and again this afternoon. This afternoon’s game is one of those that Fox Sports could’ve kept off of their nationally televised schedule. It was a really difficult game to watch, not to mention unbearably long game as well, at 3 hours and 24 minutes. Aaron Cook gave up 3 homeruns through 4 innings and left the game with his first loss of the season and an ERA of 10.22. Rockies were shutout over 13 straight innings between Friday and today’s game before getting on the board in the 6th with 3 runs. The Rockies aren’t seeing the ball well at the plate, 22 strikeouts the last two games and a lot of the contact when made is underneath the pitches resulting in a lot flyouts.

Pitching is not matching up with the hitting and vice versa most times in nearly each game played so far this season. How much of that falls on the manager’s shoulders and how much of it falls on the players? Ultimately the manager is responsible and eventhough we’re only 2 weeks into the season, if this team continues playing this way then some changes are going to be made. The Rockies as a team have not gotten into a groove of any kind. Hopefully that will come sooner than later. They have a chance to bounce back tomorrow in the final game of the series with the Dodgers before going to Arizona for 3 games there and no Brandon Webb to worry about facing.
