Game 4 Recap Phillies @ Rockies…
Pardon the pun, but yesterday was a Marquis day for the Rockies in their home opener as the scoreboard indicates. 10 runs on 14 hits and pitcher Jason Marquis going 7 innings for his first win of the season with his new team. I know we are only 4 games into the season, but right now everything is clicking simultaneously with this team. How long can this keep up? Coming out of spring training the three, four and five spots in the rotation were seriously in question as to the type of production we would see. And though we’re only four games into the season the three and four spots in the rotation in Morales and Marquis have done an impressive job on the hill. Can the number five starter, Jorge De La Rosa replicate the success of his teammates and help carry the Rockies and their momentum to their 4th straight win?
What went right? Jason Marquis goes 7 innings with help from the offense who gave him a comfortable lead with a 5 run 3rd inning and help in the field from teammates when he seemingly got into trouble, with 3 double plays on the day. Pitcher Jason Marquis also went 2 for 2 at the plate, scoring a run and an RBI.
What went wrong? Chris Iannetta went 0-4 yesterday and is currently batting .091. Not to mention the horrible call by first base umpire Gerry Davis calling Dexter Fowler out for interference when he was hit in the back with the ball by Cole Hamels as Fowler was running to first base.
All and all it was a great win for the Rockies and their fans. Hopefully the attendance numbers will be strong for the rest of the 3 game homestand, though it looks the weather along with the economy and the Easter holiday may dictate otherwise.
