Opening Day 2009… The road to the World Series
To say that “hope springs eternal” would be an understatement on a day like today, where 30 teams are all reaching for the same goal ultimately, to win the World Series. The Braves got off to a great start last evening beating the defending World Series champs, the Phillies 4-1. The White Sox and Royals will have to wait an additional day as a snowstorm has cancelled opening day at US Cellular Field on the Southside today.
Game 1 of 162 as the Rockies and Diamondbacks both begin their quests this afternoon as they do battle at Chase Field, start time 1:40 pm with Brandon Webb on the hill for the D’backs and Aaron Cook for the Rockies.
The Rockies are 9-7 overall on opening day and 3 of those 9 wins having come against the D’backs, 2 of them on the road at Chase Field/Bank One Ballpark. So statistically we have a good chance of winning the opener, but it won’t be easy against Brandon Webb and 49000 hopeful Arizona fans.
Opening Day dates for the Rockies minor league teams are as follows.
Asheville Tourists, Modesto Nuts, Tulsa Drillers, and Colorado Springs SkySox all open their seasons on Thursday April 9th. Short season teams, Tri City Dust Devils open their season on June 19th and the Casper Ghosts open June 23 both on the road.
