Rockies get their man in Hammel…

As first reported by Troy Renck of the Denver Post earlier in the week, of the Rockies interest in Jason Hammel of the Tampa Bay Rays. And as of today that confirmed interest has finally become a reality as Jason Hammel was traded for Rockies double A prospect Aneury Rodriguez.

hammel1“I’m excited. It’s a new opportunity. Obviously I wasn’t getting too much of a chance to play, and there’s a logjam of pitchers. Any other team where I can go and help pitch, I’ll take it and run with it. I feel good about it.” – Jason Hammel, Tampa Tribune

Last season with Tampa, Jason made 5 starts, 40 appearances overall and went 4-4 with a 4.60 ERA. 2 saves in 2 save opportunities. In 78.1 innings Hammel surrendered 83 hits, 45 runs (40 earned), 11 home runs, 35 walks and 44 strikeouts.
