News and notes…
Pitchers and catchers report to Tucson in 24 days and workouts begin in 25 days. The number of invitees to spring training has been extended to 9 players. As of right now I plan along with some friends to make the trek down and over to Tucson for a few days to get in on the action. It will be my first trip to spring training and I am excited. I hope to be able to bring you some really fun and exciting posts and pictures from Tucson.
5 days until the Rockies hold their first ever fanfest this Saturday Jan 24th. I havent seen anything more on this event in the newspapers or on the Rockies website. I have heard that as of last week it doesnt seem like the Rockies have gotten the 5000 season ticket holders they were limiting the event to. Early estimates are around 4000 may be in attendance. That number could increase as Saturday gets nearer, but I would almost bet that the number would be somewhat smaller. A sign of fewer season ticket holders this year? The current state of the economy? Or just simply a lack of interest? Of course it doesn’t help that the Rockies did very little to improve the team overall and limiting it to season ticket holders only as I’ve stated before in a previous blog was a huge mistake. If I hear anymore on the upcoming event I will let you know.
As of today the Rockies have avoided arbitration with Huston Street by signing him to a one year deal believed to be worth 4.5 million according to www.coloradorockies.com.
If you’re one of the fortunate ones to have off from work today for MLK Day enjoy it and look forward to a short workweek. For the rest of us, it’s 5 days as usual.
