blogging Colorado Rockies baseball…

Blame it on the rain…

It’s opening day! Forget about the Red Sox opening in Japan last week, even last night’s opener in our nation’s capital, between the Nationals and the Braves. They count in the standings, but to me they dont count as true openers to a new season of what is going to be an exciting year of baseball! The Rockies are looking to repeat their successes from last year and then some.

The reason for the Milli Vanilli reference in the title, is that today’s opener in St Louis for the Rockies will probably be in a bit of a rain delay, if not eventually called all together according to the St Louis Post-Dispatch. They’re are under a flash flood watch throughout the entire area, so by the start time of 3:15 (central standard) there may a longer wait to start the Rockies season. See radar below.

The only good thing is that since it’s an early start and opening day there is still a chance though it may be a slim that this game will be played today at some point. Keep your fingers crossed.

Here are the starters and their batting orders for both teams according to the Post-Dispatch.

Skip Schumaker, LF
Ryan Ludwick, RF
Albert Pujols, 1B
Troy Glaus, 3B
Rick Ankiel, CF
Yadier Molina, C
Cesar Izturis, SS
Adam Wainwright, RHP
Aaron Miles, 2B

Willy Taveras, CF
Troy Tulowitzki, SS
Todd Helton, 1B β€” a switch back to the spot from last season.
Matt Holliday, LF β€” was the No. 3 hitter till this spring.
Garrett Atkins, 3B
Brad Hawpe, RF
Yorvit Torrealba, C
Jayson Nix, 2B
Jeff Francis, LHP
