Brewers tap overflows for bullpen…

A rainbow appeared over Coors Field before gametime and the Rockies pot of gold was a horrible Brewers bullpen who couldn’t keep the lead or the Brewers in the game in the late innings as the Rockies went on to win 11-4. They won the series and go for the sweep this afternoon, before facing the Cubs over the weekend. The Rockies also find themselves tied for 3rd in the NL West with the Dodgers as they lost 4-0 in Cincinnati. Todd Helton last night’s player of the game hit 2 homers and drove in 4 RBI’s as the Rox now sit 3 games behind second place San Diego and 4 behind first place Arizona. Recent call-up catcher Edwin Bellorin started the game and in his first and only at bat grounded into an inning ending double play early in the game. The dormant offense finally awaken in the 6th to give Jason Hirsh his 5th win on the season.
The Rockies could have and it’s my prediction, 5 players with 20 or more homeruns this season. Holliday leads the team with 21, then Hawpe (19), Atkins (17), Tulowitzki (13) and Helton (11) and maybe a 6th player if Ryan Spilborghs (.336, 9, 40) went 3 of 4 last night, continues to get well deserved playing time. I also noticed the last couple of nights that the Rockies aren’t advertising the weekend series with the Cubs as heavily as they did with the Yankees earlier in the season. Rockies players were upset that the front office marketed the Yankees much more than marketing their own product and rightfully so. There is now more marketing to fans about the stretch run coming up over the next month and a half, which starts now with the Cubs this weekend and end with the Diamondbacks at the end of September. The Rockies face their division rivals each twice before the end of the season beginning next week in San Diego and Los Angeles. But for now let’s focus on sweeping the Brewers and taking care of business against the Cubs this weekend.
