blogging Colorado Rockies baseball…

Excitement and Sadness…

Though this picture was not of the best quality, fans were jubilant in the 9th as Rockies win game 1 over the Padres 7-5.

Chants of “Let’s go Rockies!” in the 8th inning with the Rox down 5-2 and Holliday unleashes a 3 run bomb to tie the Padres! Later, in the same inning Brad Hawpe gives the Rockies a 2 run lead with a shot to left center field. Maddux did his part for the Padres, and the Padres’ offense came to life, but the bullpen wasnt able to hold on for the win. If you were there last night, you got a taste of what playoff baseball could be like at Coors Field this season. There’s still a long way to go, but like I said in the previous post this is a critical week for the Rockies. 31000 plus (some with their dogs as it was Paws at the Park night) were waiting for the Rockies to explode and they did that in the 8th inning. Jeff Francis did not have his best night, but he had just enough to keep the Rockies in striking distance of the Padres. The Rockies now sit at 50-49, 5 1/2 games out of first place and 3 1/2 behind the 2nd place Padres. Corpas who’s filling in nicely for the injured Brian Fuentes recorded his 5th save, shutting the door on the Padres in the 9th and handing them their 4th straight loss and 5 of their last 7.

Last but certainly not least I would like to send my condolences to the family and friends of Mike Coolbaugh, Tulsa Drillers hitting coach, whom was struck and killed by a line drive Sunday night coaching first base. I have provided a link for further reaction from the baseball world.
